DEAD WAIT DESIGNS LOGO
Dead Wait Designs is a passion project that combines all of my loves into one: cars and design. I saw an opportunity to develop my video editing, cinematography and social networking skills by documenting the restoration of my 1965 Cadillac (and maybe more coming soon). The logo came together quickly after I had settled on a name. After all, who doesn’t love a good play on words? The skull combined with the arms of a clock illustrate the name, and the bold type face allows all the crunchiness to shine through.
THE SKULL
This was the fun part and also the most frustrating. Illustrating a skull with a reference is a piece of cake, but getting Illustrator to play nice and give you the right level of dirtiness takes a certain level of patience I wasn’t sure I had. Starting with a line drawing and utilizing a gradient mesh, I was able to manipulate the pixelation to give me just the right amount of grit. Given the nature of the program and, It is cool to think that even if someone were to try to replicate the mark exactly, no two would ever be the same.
